The Slovak Ministry of Education also considers the education of Hungarian students in their mother tongue to be crucial.
According to the information of the Felvidék ma news portal , in some regions and counties, there are more students of Hungarian nationality who choose Hungarian schools than the local Hungarian or Hungarian-language educational institutions can accept. Such a situation also occurred in Kassa county.
The Ministry of Education also reacted to the situation in Kassa County, which, in cooperation with the counties, determines the upper limit of the number of students for the first years of secondary schools every year in accordance with the current legislation. The ministry determines an aggregate number for the entire county and it is solely within the competence of the county how it distributes the frame number among its self-maintained educational institutions.
Filip Mónika stated in a statement:
"Recently, we also discussed the issue with Kassa County. We inquired about the students' school choice system, and we also requested that sufficient staff be available in the county-run secondary schools for Hungarian-language secondary schools. Kassa County assured us that we will find a solution to the situation."
Finally, the state secretary responsible for nationalities and inclusive education explained:
"it is of key importance to us that all students who wish to continue their secondary school studies in Hungarian have the opportunity to study in their own mother tongue".
