The Karácsonys were always able to promise very nice things in the election campaign, in fact, they "savagely stood up" for the unions and demanded sometimes unrealistic wage increases from the leadership at the time. "Now that they are in charge of the capital, they offer zero percent to the workers".
The capital led by Gergely Karácsony does not plan to raise wages at BKV, which may lead to a strike of several days at the end of April - Kossuth Rádió announced Good morning, Hungary! in his show.
Gábor Naszályi , the president of the United Transport Trade Union, reminded in the broadcast that they are demanding a six percent wage increase, which he called modest. As he said, this would only compensate for inflation and price increases.
"When the budget was ready, the capital requested business plans from the companies under its supervision, which included a zero percent wage increase," he emphasized. He emphasized that the strike is not a goal for anyone, it is only a last resort, which he hopes they will not have to live with.
Zsolt Láng , the head of the Fidesz faction in the capital, pointed out in the program that the administration of the capital is much more difficult to see due to the epidemic situation, since the general assembly is not functioning.
"Already in last year's first budget, created by the coalition led by Gergely Karácsony, it was evident that they fought back in certain areas, even though the pandemic was not yet anywhere," he recalled.
According to him, significant resources were withdrawn from many areas, such as development, road construction or social areas. Zsolt Láng called the trade unions' demand that there should be no drop in real wages justified.
"Compared to this, the capital calculates with zero from the outset and does not even try to move away from this," he emphasized.
He believes that this is especially interesting in the light of the fact that the Karácsonys were always able to promise very nice things in the election campaign, in fact, they "savagely stood up" for the unions and demanded sometimes unrealistic wage increases from the leadership at the time.
"Now that they are leading the capital, they are offering zero percent to the workers," he underlined.
He also responded to the suggestion that the capital cannot raise without the help of the government. Zsolt Láng reminded that the only transport company in Hungary that is directly supported by the government is BKV. The transport company received 12 billion from the government this year as well. "The six percent wage increase means HUF 8 billion in comparison," he underlined.
The ruling party politician also pointed out that, according to his claim, the capital would have the resources to raise wages, but "the capital's money is flowing out in countless places".
As an example, he cited Budapest Brand Zrt., which makes 1.3 billion forints a year, which is the capital's advertising company, and whose main task is to attract tourists here. There are no tourists due to the pandemic, but the company's budget is still huge.
The advertising tender, which was not announced by the capital against the law, causes a loss of one billion a year, is also memorable.
