The main topic of the discussion will be political cooperation between Fidesz, Lega Nord and PiS at the European Union level.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will receive Matteo Salvini, the president of the Italian Lega, and Mateusz Morawiecki, the Prime Minister of the Polish Law and Justice (PiS) in Budapest on Thursday, Zoltán Kovács, the state secretary responsible for international communications, announced on Twitter on Tuesday.
Salvini: We are presenting a joint charter defining common values and goals
The joint meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki serves to build Europe after the coronavirus epidemic - Matteo Salvini, the leader of the Italian League party, answered MTI's question in an online interview with the international press on Tuesday, which preceded his trip to Budapest due on Thursday.
He stated that the topic of the Budapest meeting will be the restart of the European Union after the epidemic. "After Covid-19, Europe will also be different, there will be an opportunity to rethink a new European identity," said Salvini.
He noted that the League, Fidesz and the Law and Justice party share common European values, which focus on work, prosperity, security, families, and the Christian values that founded Europe. "We are presenting a common charter defining common values and goals," Matteo Salvini said.
He added that the League's accession to the European People's Party (EPP) is not on the agenda. He stated that if the party family of Identity and Democracy and the European Conservatives and Reformists merged, it would be the second largest faction and would "make Europe great again".
Morawiecki: the operation of the EP will be one of the topics of the Hungarian-Polish-Italian meeting in Budapest
The operation of the European Parliament (EP) will be one of the topics of the Hungarian-Polish-Italian talks to be held in Budapest at the invitation of Viktor Orbán, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced on Tuesday.
Regarding the agenda of the meeting, Morawiecki said: "various European matters", including "clearly political" issues related to the functioning of the EP, will be discussed.
They also agreed on how to "best implement the European program in the interest of all states, but primarily in the interest of Poland, Hungary and Italy," said the Polish Prime Minister.
Last week, the head of the EP delegation of the Law and Justice (PiS) party that leads the Polish government coalition, Beata Mazurek, said that PiS, a member of the European Parliament faction of the European Conservatives and Reformers (ECR), was interested in expanding the ECR after Fidesz left the European People's Party.
