We recall the beginning of the classic story only because today is the day of writing fairy tales and at the same time the international day of children's books. Why was this particular day chosen in 1967? Well, Hans Christian Andersen was born on this day.

Let's add to this that the Andersen of our country, István Csukás, was also born on this day in 1936. Uncle Pista - as the children called him - almost felt it was a sign that he was born on the same day as the great storyteller. At the beginning, he wrote poems and published them in newspapers, then from the 1960s he increasingly turned to children's literature.

In addition to Csukás' books of poems, his children's novels, storybooks, and poetic tales were published more and more, not only at home, but also abroad. He created such immortal fairy-tale characters as Mirr-Murr, Pom Pom Süssü the dragon, Hard Hat and Potato Nose.

His work was recognized with, among others, the Attila József award and the Kossuth award.
