Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, died in the 100th year of his life at the Windsor residence of the royal family. He would have turned 100 years old on June 10.
The prince was treated in hospital for 28 days from mid-February and was able to return home from the hospital to Windsor on March 16, but he did not appear in public until his death was announced on Friday.
The Duke of Edinburgh and the British monarch, Elizabeth, celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary last November.
