217 people died, most of them elderly, chronically ill, and another 4,604 Hungarian citizens were diagnosed with the coronavirus - koronavirus.gov.hu announced on Saturday, highlighting that 3,213,837 people have been vaccinated in Hungary so far, of which 1,371,702 have already received the second they also received a dose of vaccine.
The number of infected people identified in Hungary increased to 746,802. The number of those who died rose to 24,979, and those who recovered rose to 450,791. The number of actively infected people is 271,032. 8,947 coronavirus patients are being treated in hospitals, of which 1,093 are on ventilators. There are 51,049 people under official home quarantine, and the number of samples has increased to 5,096,421.
In order to contain the epidemic, the government is extending the protective measures that are currently in effect, so wearing masks and keeping distance in public areas will be mandatory even after April 19, and the curfew will remain in effect from 10 p.m. Parallel to the progress of the vaccination program, the second stage of the lifting of protective measures is also approaching: terraces, kindergartens and lower grades of schools can also prepare for the opening. The terraces and garden areas of restaurants can be opened the day after the number of vaccinated people reaches 3.5 million.
