Hans Kluge, the European regional director of the WHO (World Health Organization), praised the Hungarian measures, welcoming the decisive steps and the exemplary vaccination campaign.

On Wednesday, Hans Kluge met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó in Budapest, and then explained at their joint press conference: In Hungary, people and businesses have been protected with the measures during this difficult period for everyone.

In Hungary, they are conducting an exemplary vaccination campaign, they see the vaccine as a life-saving tool, the question of which goes beyond geopolitics, he explained. He added: the vaccine is the only tool to defeat the epidemic.

He reminded: by the end of May, all registered persons can receive the vaccine in Hungary, the vaccination rate is well above the European average.

The WHO official congratulated the decisive steps taken by the Hungarian authorities. It is important that everyone is safe, he added.

He elaborated on: the opening steps must be decided according to the evolution of the epidemic. Schools should be closed at the latest and opened at the earliest, he believed.

The director expressed his appreciation to the healthcare workers, whom he called the heroes of the epidemic.

He announced that during his visit to Budapest, he will also meet Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Miklós Kásler, the Minister of Human Resources.

Péter Szijjártó announced at the press conference: in the next ten days, 1,480,000 doses of vaccine will arrive in Hungary from Russia and China.
