In the Catholic Church, the first of May is the liturgical memorial day of Saint Joseph the Worker. The famous day XII. It was ordained by Pope Piusz on May 1, 1955.

József, the betrothed of the Blessed Virgin, the adoptive father of the Redeemer, was a carpenter by profession, a simple manual worker. That is why he is revered as the patron saint of workers. In addition, he is the patron saint of carpenters, carpenters, woodcutters, carpenters, craftsmen, betrothed people, Christian marriages, families, and the persecuted. He is asked to intercede for a good death and he has been honored as the patron saint of the Catholic Church for 150 years now. In connection with the anniversary Pope Francis published his apostolic letter beginning Patris corde ("With the heart of the Father"), on the occasion that IX. On December 8, 1870, Pope Piusz declared Jesus' foster father, St. Joseph . Pope Francis did this with the aim of increasing respect and love for this great saint, to encourage him to follow him, and to encourage him to intercede in prayers.

József was a good man, but after much contemplation he married his betrothed after the angelic apparition. At the time of the census, the child Jesus was born in Bethlehem (Mt 1, 18-24; Mt 2, 1-12).

He obediently fled the danger to Egypt with his family, and after their return they settled in Nazareth (Mt 2, 13-23). Jesus was taken to Jerusalem when he was 12 years old, but due to a misunderstanding, he was lost and was not found in the temple until the third day. Then they returned to Nazareth (Lk 2, 39-52). Jesus may have died not long before the beginning of his public activity, but neither the time of his death nor his burial place are known.

Both Gospels present Joseph as standing in the father's place in the Savior's life. Luke calls him the father of Jesus several times. Jesus worked alongside József, learning carpentry from him.

Saint Joseph is revered by the Catholic Church as the silent saint of everyday life. He left no wisdom behind, yet became a model of holy obedience, family care and modest humility .

II. In his apostolic exhortation at the beginning of Redemptoris custos, Pope
John Paul : "Just as the family of Nazareth is a model of human families in the order of salvation and holiness, we can say the same about the work of Jesus, which he did at the side of Joseph the carpenter. In our time, the church wanted to highlight the importance of this by placing the liturgical memorial day of St. Joseph the Worker on the first day of May.

HUMAN WORK IS HIGHLY RESPECTED IN THE GOSPEL, ESPECIALLY IF IT WAS DONE BY HAND!

Work entered into the mystery of the Incarnation together with the humanity of the Son of God, and even benefited from the redemption in a special way. József, thanks to his workbench, on which he carried out his activities together with Jesus, also brought human work closer to the mystery of salvation."

VI. In his work entitled Dialogue, Pope Paul writes: "Saint Joseph is the role model of those humble people whom Christianity assigns to great purposes. He is proof that extraordinary things are not necessary for people to be good and authentic followers of Christ, only general, human, simple, but true and authentic virtues are needed.”
