Hungary provided the most successful health response to the pandemic caused by the coronavirus in Europe because it took care of the necessary vaccines in time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade stated today in Brussels, during the break of the one-day meeting of the ministers responsible for foreign affairs and trade affairs of the EU member states.
The reason why we are in first place in terms of vaccination rates in Europe today is because we bought a sufficient amount of vaccines on time - said Péter Szijjártó.
He stated: there is enough vaccine in Hungary. More than 10 million vaccines are available from Eastern and Western sources
He also said that the national vaccine factory will also be operational from the end of 2022, which will make enough of its own vaccine available to vaccinate everyone who has registered for vaccinations. This makes the purchase of new vaccines completely unnecessary, he underlined.
Regarding the issue of intellectual property rights for vaccines against the coronavirus, he said that Hungary considers it important to produce as many vaccines as possible in as many places as possible. By continuously increasing vaccine production capacities, we can maintain the safety of the world against the pandemic, with less bureaucratic measures, he said.
In connection with the so-called vaccine passport that is to be introduced, he said, the debate has been rushed as long as the average vaccination rate of about 30 percent characterizes the European Union, and as long as many countries struggle with the willingness to vaccinate or the availability of the vaccine. First, there should be a vaccine, people should be vaccinated , he emphasized.
Regarding the vaccine passport, Hungary will also insist on non-discrimination with regard to vaccines and travel, Péter Szijjártó added.
