Four hundred police officers around the clock, and 3,200 on duty, will secure the European Football Championship. Five hundred different police vehicles, 14 mounted police officers and 25 patrol dogs will be deployed during the matches. The latter will also be used to search for bombs before the matches in the Puskás Arena, reports Magyar Nemzet.

According to the government decree on the security of sports events, the National Police Headquarters (ORFK) classified all the matches of the European Championship in Hungary as high security risks. According to the justification of the decision at the end of May, this was necessary because, although the relationship between the fans of the national teams playing in Budapest is not hostile, the high number of spectators in itself represents a security risk. According to the police, due to the number of 50,000 spectators and the size of the crowd in the fan zones, there is an immediate danger that the lives and physical integrity of the fans will be harmed, or something will happen to their property.

The police added that in order to maintain public safety, a continuous police presence will be necessary both inside the facility and in public areas. The units lined up at the Emergency Police will be ready for deployment from June 10, and their command will last for one month, until the European Championship final. The Puskás Arena will be closed during the European Championship, and field workers and maintenance workers can only enter the stadium after a police check. The police are also prepared for the movement of fans after the matches. The Budapest Police Headquarters is responsible for the order of the celebrations following the events. It can also be expected that some criminal circles are preparing to rob foreign visiting fans, so the investigators will check the nightclubs together with the partner agencies. They also try to prevent drug sales, prostitution, pickpocketing and overbilling.
