The Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade received the Romanian Minister of Environmental Protection, Water Affairs and Forestry at his office. Several important issues were discussed with Barna Tánczos, Péter Szijjártó informed about the discussion on his social media page.

"Since (Barna Tánczos) took over the leadership of the Romanian Ministry of Environmental Protection, he has been able to show very serious results, which is good news for Hungary, since environmental pollution never stops at state borders. The more effective Romania is in the field of environmental protection, the better for us on this side of the border. The pollution of the Tisza is a recurring problem practically every year, mostly caused by plastic bottles. The good news is that Tánczos Barna's ministry has drafted the law that will encourage the return of PET bottles, so fewer bottles will end up in rivers and their floodplains.

In the second half of the year, the Joint Committee on Environmental Protection and Water Management will also meet, where we will work out new joint measures to further protect our common rivers.

It is also good news that in Romania the capacities needed to clean water streams from mines are being increased, which is also an important step forward in our joint environmental protection efforts.

Both Hungary and Romania are performing well in the fight against climate change. One of the keys to our success is that we pursue a sensible energy policy, so it is still in our common interest that EU regulations do not discriminate against the use of natural gas and nuclear energy."
