Hungarian residential consumers can still calculate with the lowest energy prices in Europe according to end-user price information, the Hungarian Energy and Utilities Regulatory Office (MEKH) announced based on an international price comparison study in May.

The office's investigation compared data from 27 European Union capitals, as well as Belgrade and London. MEKH's monthly price comparison, developed on the basis of international standards, shows the prices of electricity and natural gas in European capitals.

According to this, in terms of the average price of natural gas provided to residential consumers, Budapest continues to maintain its leading position, i.e. natural gas here is the cheapest among the examined capitals, at 2.81 euro cents per kilowatt hour.

The trend has been unbroken since September 2019, so for the past 20 months, residential gas prices have been consistently the most favorable in Budapest, the energy agency pointed out.

According to the information, in May 2021, the average residential price of electricity in Budapest was 10.40 eurocents per kilowatt hour, which is the second lowest price among the capitals included in the survey, while the cheapest among the EU capitals.
