Viktor Orbán and the Polish Jarosław Kaczyński are treated more condemningly by the German public media than Kim Jong Un or Vladimir Putin. They are demonized to such an extent that you can feel it: they are hurting the self-esteem of the Western European intellectual class to the core, Arnold Vaatz, the deputy leader of the Bundestag faction of the German Christian Union parties (CDU/CSU), told the Magyar Nemzet. Here are some thoughts from the interview:

"After the Warsaw Pact and the collapse of socialism, the West basked in it for a long time and fanned its vanity, just as the people of Central Europe and the GDR admired its high standard of living. Later, however, the electoral preferences of these countries also showed that they are increasingly turning away from the Western way of life, they consider the climate ideology to be crazy, and the moral dominance over the whole world to be ridiculous and inflated. From this point on, the West suffered a significant narcissistic injury, feeling wounded in its vanity. He was no longer the best, the non plus ultra of everything.

Poles, Hungarians, Czechs and East Germans have questioned whether Westerners are at all normal when they talk about, say, thirty different genders. The same is the case with the ecological uproar, that practically the whole of Western politics is subordinated to saving the climate. Hungary and Poland differ from other Central and Eastern European countries in that they are characterized by political continuity, their governments last longer and enjoy great support among the population. This is due to personalities at the top in these two countries, such as Viktor Orbán and Jarosław Kaczyński.

Orbán is the personified opposite of the current fashion trend of Western European political thought. There is something else that became clear to me only later: socialism collapsed just when it conquered the hearts of Western Europeans. The collapse of Eastern socialism was the biggest and heaviest defeat the West European left had ever experienced. And since the political left essentially dominates the entire media spectrum, and in recent years has not given any playing field to conservative voices, they hate Orbán and Kaczyński. In essence, they are treated more condemningly or aggressively than Kim Jong Un or Vladimir Putin. They are demonized to such an extent that you can feel it: they hurt the self-respect of this Western European intellectual class to the core."
