According to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, "brave and unusual" government decisions must be made to raise economic growth above 5.5 percent, "but if we succeed, we will be able to return the tax and income tax that they paid in 2021 to families raising children." In a video posted on his Facebook page on Tuesday, the Prime Minister announced that the Parliament adopted the budget for restarting the Hungarian economy in the afternoon.

He added: they want to achieve economic growth of 5.5 percent, "the budget is a good basis for this, but it is not sufficient by itself." He put it this way: "we have to make brave and unusual government decisions to raise economic growth above 5.5 percent, but if we succeed, we will be able to return to families raising children the tax and income tax they paid in 2021."

At the same time, the minister stated: they will continue to return and rebuild the 13th month pension, they can provide work opportunities without personal income tax for those under the age of 25, they can agree with entrepreneurs that the minimum wage should be HUF 200,000, and they can once again reduce taxes on work.

"It's a big task, but not impossible. Hungarians go for it!" concluded the Prime Minister.

The Parliament adopted next year's budget

The Parliament accepted Hungary's budget for next year, the budget for the restart, said Finance Minister Mihály Varga in a video message posted on his social media page on Tuesday.

He emphasized: thus, in 2022, the resources will be fully available to restart the economy, create jobs and stimulate investments.

The government is expanding support for families, continuing to rebuild the 13-month pension, continuing tax cuts, thus introducing tax exemptions for those under 25 and reducing taxes on work, he noted.

Once again, the country has a budget with which all important areas can manage with more money than a year before, he pointed out.

The Minister of Finance stated that it is in Hungary's interest to pursue a policy that does not raise, but rather continuously lowers, taxes.

"We determined the main numbers of the budget in such a way as to provide the necessary resources for the restart, as well as to ensure the reduction of the deficit and the debt. Next year's budget therefore expects a 5.2 percent increase, a 5.9 percent GDP deficit target and a state debt level falling to 79.3 percent, he pointed out.

Speaking about the amendment proposals of the left, he said that the Jobbik faction would spend three times the emergency reserve of the budget, the LMP proposed a tax increase and the introduction of new taxes, the Párbeszéd would have caused an additional expenditure of HUF 1,400 billion by introducing the basic income. He added: the 1,148 conflicting proposals would have "overturned" the budget by HUF 8,800 billion. The proposals would have led to tax increases, the introduction of new taxes or debt - he underlined and confirmed that the governing parties did not support this direction.

Hungary has now not only defeated the epidemic, but is on the best path to putting the effects of the epidemic behind it, he emphasized.
