Disregarding the definition of the story , the use of the word has become common in today's language even when there is no sequence of events and no story at all.

The meaning of the word "subject" is: 'a series or chain of real or imagined events, actions'. Settlements, inventions, literature, music, visual arts, philosophy, etc. have a history They can perform it live or record it in writing. They can film real events or fiction. The point is that when a story , there is a story in every case. There is a sequence of events, a plot. E.g. Ferenc Herczeg Byzantium "an eternal story about how people can adapt to a certain kind of change, how they try to gain an advantage at all costs, to cross over to the other side without any moral or ideological boundaries". "For Sávitri, the princess struggling with death and in love, the story evokes old India, the world that sank thousands and thousands of years ago..." - wrote Endre Illés in the afterword of his short novel Sávitri. "Based on a true story " The King's Speech movie. In these and similar cases, the use of the story is flawless.

But in recent language use, this lexeme has become a kind of joker word, a substitute for countless expressions. In today's speech and writing, he has wandered into places where he has nothing to gain.

story all week, " said a participant in a show. Correct: a candy containing chocolate . The story in such a textual context - if there is no story - is a confusion of words, even a confusion of images. Then: " everyone liked story "the prune story ". The word would have been added precisely when, for example, food specialty or food specialty was written.

"I can't imagine it being laid like a tablecloth and stories " he said in a TV program. Instead of correcting the entire sentence, which requires a complete rewording, let's just change the italics here and now: (traditional) serving accessories.

In addition to the world of the kitchen, the story without a story is rampant in many other areas . story did not start in Sweden , but in Japan." It's more like a wall game (competition ) , since it's a show-program based on a logic game.

"Making a motorcycle seat is not such a difficult story ." The marked word can be omitted here: Making a motorcycle seat is not that difficult. Or it can be replaced: Making a motorcycle seat is not such a difficult job (or: not such a difficult occupation, task ).

On a financial advice site, I read: "...the story , because you only have to follow the link in the e-mail". We find something similar in the explanation for taking high-quality photos: "...the story , since we open the camera app, and by clicking on the »More« menu item, we select the »Supermoon« function". Alternatively: simple operation, procedure, task; method, procedure , manner, method of procedure.

"Is this a boiler heating filament story ?" - they ask on an online forum, using the term in question instead of device or equipment As far as I know, this would have been enough: Does this boiler have heating fibers?

"To the best of my knowledge, it can't be adjusted, it's an automatic story ," they wrote on another car forum about the clutch. Here, too, the story - device , clutch , coupling - or omitted.  So it's accurate: To the best of my knowledge, it can't be set on it, it's automatic.

I read this elsewhere: this "mattress cover is a working story , there are indeed clinical tests behind it". In Hungarian: the cover is well-proven , suited to the purpose , excellent quality , etc.

In its place, therefore, the story , but in the absence of a story, without a sequence of events, the use of this noun is a confusion of words, a confusion of images, and a mess. When it gets "twisted", and in addition to its ambiguity, it even becomes a hackneyed buzzword, it should be replaced. We have seen: the language user has a series of synonyms for this - in order to use the language accurately. Anyone who doesn't hesitate to find the words that best fit the context...
