The procedure according to Article 7 of the EU treaty is not about the facts, but is a political and blackmail tool against Hungary, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade declared on Monday in Luxembourg, at the one-day meeting of the foreign ministers of the European Union member states.
Péter Szijjártó responded that at Tuesday's meeting of the ministers dealing with general EU affairs in Luxembourg, he will hold hearings regarding the procedures according to Article 7 of the EU Treaty on the state of the rule of law in Poland and the enforcement of the values of the Union in Hungary. Speaking to Hungarian journalists during the break of the meeting, the minister stated that the procedure, as it is and as long as it is taking place, will bring down those who continue the procedure.
The procedure is a tool of political blackmail, because if anyone wanted to argue about the facts, it would have been over a long time ago
he emphasized.
He emphasized: Hungary's position is known, as all possible questions have been answered, the procedure can be closed. This needs to be voted on, and based on the results of the voting, you can proceed, he said.
"It is obvious to them that they cannot win the vote, because it requires unanimity, and all 27 member states of the European Union will not condemn Hungary," he said.
He also stated that the connection between the procedure, which is a tool of political blackmail, and next year's Hungarian elections is obvious. The procedure is another tool for the liberal mainstream to try to influence the Hungarian parliamentary elections, he said. This is not the only, not the first attempt to influence next year's elections, there will obviously be others, he added.
Regarding the fact that the adoption of the Hungarian anti-pedophile law could be among the topics of Tuesday's council meeting, Péter Szijjártó said: "there is no such thing as a world where bureaucrats from Brussels or liberal politicians from Western Europe tell us whether we can protect our children or not ".
He stated: protecting Hungarian children is the right and responsibility of the Hungarian legislature. Hungarian legislation should only grant families and parents the right to decide on the education of their own children. Protecting Hungarian children does not depend on Western European liberal politicians and Brussels bureaucrats. "Protecting Hungarian children is our right and their duty," added the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
