The Bükki National Park Administration plays a prominent role in the protection and presentation of inanimate natural values, and the beehive stones are also unique within this, which are not only of natural, but also cultural and sacred importance - stated the state secretary responsible for the environment of the Ministry of Agriculture Szomolyán, the niche rocks, at the closing event of the project for the preservation and presentation of hive stones.

András Rácz reminded that it was an important step in terms of the protection of special geological formations when the beehive stones came under protection in 2014, and since 2016, as part of the Bükk-alja Stone Culture, the list of Hungarians has also been enriched. He added: the project, which is now ending, ensures long-term preservation and conditions for visitors.

The state secretary also spoke about how this year is outstanding in the life of national parks, since so many developments have never been implemented in one year, as this year. 30 investments will be handed over this year, totaling HUF 8.7 billion. The state secretary emphasized that the last 10 years were also about project implementations, as the directorates improved the state of the natural environment on a total of 320,000 hectares with the help of 186 projects out of HUF 78 billion.

The 180 million HUF project helped preserve, restore, protect and present the state of the beehive stones, said the director of the Bükki National Park Administration in his speech. Regarding the details, Mrs. Kálmán Rónai highlighted: various works were carried out at a total of 21 locations in the area in order to protect the beehive stones, an important element of which was the removal of non-native or threatening vegetation.

The richest occurrence of alcove rocks can be found in the vicinity of Eger, at the bottom of the Bükk: we know 82 beehive stones in 41 sites, and experts counted 479 alcoves in the rock formations.
