The role of Slovenia, which holds the consecutive presidency of the Council of the European Union, will be extremely important in the next six months, since in this position, Ljubljana can make proposals to the European Union institutions: it can speed up certain topics, while it can freeze other matters, and from the Hungarian point of view, it is important that the EU what matters will be on the agenda in the next period - Zoltán Kiszelly, director of the Századvég political analysis center, explained to Magyar Nemzet.
The political scientist emphasized: the issue of managing migration will be a hot topic from September, and the proposals from Brussels are more about mandatory quotas, but Slovenia - similar to the position of Hungary and the Visegrád countries - rejects the distribution of illegal arrivals to Europe according to quotas, so it will be very important , how Slovenia will be able to moderate these Brussels plans.
Regarding the role of the Visegrád countries in the European Union, Zoltán Kiszelly also spoke about: Central Europe is a prosperous region, and therefore its weight within the Union is increasing, moreover, in terms of the number of the countries' population, if the V4 vote in one direction in important decisions, then they will compete with the weight of the larger western member states.
