Thirty embassies in Hungary and 12 foreign cultural institutes issued a joint statement on the occasion of the 26th Budapest Pride Festival announced for Saturday, in which they view recent developments with concern and assured the participants and organizers of the festival of their support.
As they wrote in their statement:
"Concerned by recent developments that threaten the prohibition of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity, we encourage all countries to take further steps to ensure the equality and dignity of all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We consider it important that elected leaders and governments respect and protect the rights of LGBTQI+ individuals.”
The statement was signed by the embassies of the following countries:
Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, United Kingdom, Norway, United States of America, United States of America , the embassies of Italy, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden and New Zealand, as well as the British Council, the Cervantes Institute, the Camões Institute, the Czech Center, the Estonian Institute, FinnAgora, the Representation of the Flemish Government in Hungary, the French Institute, the Goethe Institute, the Italian Cultural Institute, Austrian Cultural Forum Budapest, Wallonie-Brussels International.
