During the siege in 1945, the building suffered serious but not fatal damage, it could have been saved. Instead of its reconstruction, in 1951 a workers' hostel was created in it, then it was neglected, and finally it was blown up in 1968 and then demolished. Since then, the site has been undeveloped and closed to visitors. Now, as part of the National Haussmann Program, the palace is being rebuilt in its original condition, with the former stables built in Neo-Renaissance style and the fairy-tale palace garden, reports hirado.hu .

Archduke József rebuilt the former Teleki Palace, built at the end of the 18th century, in 1902 based on the designs of Flóris Korb and Kálmán Giergl in a historicizing style on Szent György tér. Korb worked together with Alajos Hauszmann for 14 years, for example the New York Palace. Later, he founded a joint office with Giergl. In addition to the reconstruction of the Archduke József's palace, the two of them are credited with numerous typical Pest apartment buildings with richly decorated facades and great buildings such as the Klotild palaces or the Academy of Music - read the post uploaded to the social media platform of the National Hauszman Program.

Now, within the framework of the National Haussmann Program, the blown-up palace is being rebuilt in its original condition, with the former stables built in Neo-Renaissance style and the fairy-tale palace garden. The exterior of the building will faithfully follow the designs of the Korb-Giergl couple, while modern solutions will be used in terms of interior design, building engineering and operation.

The garden will be connected to the medieval Jewish ritual bath located below, the Mikve, which will be accessible both by stairs and by elevator. From the garden, visitors will be able to walk down the Ybl stairs, which are also being rebuilt, to the West Gardens, which will be renewed in the coming years. As part of the construction, the Castle Garage III will be built on Palota út, with space for around 300 cars, which will help alleviate the parking problems in the area and will make it possible to further reduce car traffic at the Buda Castle in the future.

During the works, the side of Szent György utca on the Tabán side must be closed to pedestrian traffic, information about possible additional restrictions will be continuously provided on the signs displayed on the site, on the Facebook page of the National Hauszmann Program and in Budavári Séták Magazine.

The former Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Hungarian Armed Forces, Archduke Károly József of Habsburg-Lorraine, was extremely popular in Hungary at the time. Not by chance: he was an excellent military leader, but he also took an active role in many social issues and considered it important to flourish Hungarian sports, culture and science. He had several estates, factories, and plants in Hungary, and at one time also owned Margaret Island. He did both public and academic work, for example he compiled the first Hungarian-Gypsy dictionary.
