River waste removal structures are being installed in 12 places along the Romanian-Hungarian border in Romania in order to prevent the pollution of Hungarian rivers in the future, after significant amounts of plastic and other types of waste have entered Hungary on the rivers coming from Romania several times in recent years, Tánczos Barna of Romania announced on Monday in Nagyvárad Minister of Environment.
The head of the ministry spoke about this at a press conference. He said that in the coming months, they will assess where these structures should be installed, which will not allow the various wastes carried by the water to move further.
The minister reminded that in recent years a huge amount of waste has often been transferred to the territory of Hungary via rivers. He recalled: during his last visit to Hungary, he and his negotiators agreed that Romania would take concrete steps to prevent further pollution.
The minister stated that after the identification of the 12 locations, the public procurement procedure for the preparation of the feasibility study is expected to be announced this year, and that the Romanian government will finance the construction of these structures. He said that with the support of the Dutch embassy, Romania has already placed such waste disposal structures, and using their experience, they want to extend the protection system to the entire border section.
