Leslie Mandoki, the world-famous musician and producer's band, the Mandoki Soulmates, will give a big concert on August 21 in Budapest, in front of the Szent István Basilica. On the very day on which 46 years ago he fled (he defected in the words of the time) through a railway tunnel from the communist dictatorship, censorship and insinuation.
During the pandemic, Mandoki Soulmates presented their most ambitious double album to date in the form of an online concert. The musical material of the concert was released with great success in Hungary last autumn under the title "Living in the Gap - Hungarian Pictures", it was at the top of the sales charts for months and became a gold record.
Hungarian Pictures is based on Béla Bartók's music. In his work "Hungarian Pictures", the world-renowned composer mixed the sounds of the Carpathian Basin and traditional melodies in order to protest against the spreading threat of National Socialism with the universal, unifying power of music. This inspired Leslie Mandoki and the members of Mandoki Soulmates.
The online concert has already been watched by two million people on Europe's leading television stations, YouTube and many other channels.
The Mandoki Soulmates, the world-famous band featuring iconic rock and jazz artists, is now coming back to the public: they will perform a live concert in front of the Szent István Basilica in Budapest on August 21, 2021 at 7 p.m.
Now, together with artists they know from their student days, Soulmates members from New York, Los Angeles and London, free thinkers, opinion leaders, soul mates and creative artists from all walks of life, they want to continue a cherished tradition this evening: this evening they want to give space to emotions, to break away from busy everyday life, to celebrate life, love, togetherness.
The concert is also a record presentation concert, on September 24, the new visual album Hungarian Pictures / Utopia for realists, released worldwide by Sony, will be presented.
