While the domestic news reports that the Hungarian police caught more than sixty Afghan migrants in the space of two hours on Saturday afternoon, the Austrian Minister of the Interior announced that, unlike many other countries, the deportation of Afghans will not be suspended.
Austria insists on deporting Afghans who do not have refugee status in the country, and does not join the Western countries that have decided to suspend deportations due to the situation in Afghanistan and the advance of the Taliban. This was announced by Interior Minister Karl Nehammer of the Conservative People's Party (ÖVP) on Saturday in Vienna.

According to the minister, it is too easy to demand a general stop on deportations, while ignoring the expected influx of refugees.

"Anyone who needs protection should, if possible, be provided with it in the country of origin," said Nehammer, who expressed the view that a general halt to deportations encourages illegal migration, the activities of people smugglers, and thus organized crime.

Nehammer reminded that only young Afghans applied for refugee status in Austria. "As Minister of the Interior, above all, I have to take responsibility for the people living in Austria," said the politician, who said that, above all, this means a permanent indictment of social peace and the welfare state.

As is known, in recent days Germany, France and the Netherlands have suspended deportations to Afghanistan due to the deteriorating security situation there.
