An Ikarus festival is organized by the Transport Museum on Saturday and Sunday in Kőbánya, in the Diesel Hall of the former Northern Vehicle Repair.
Twelve legendary Ikarus buses will be on display this weekend at the future home of the Transport Museum The public can see the newly restored Ikarus 66 as part of the museum's collection development program. The model, now visible for the first time, was restored to its original condition during a multi-year restoration.
The widespread nickname of the type, Faros, was inspired by the vehicle's stern-engine arrangement and the related characteristic engine tent that protrudes from the rear of the vehicle body. The Ikarus 311 and a 211 bus, which formed the basis of the factory's export success, will also be on display - the two vehicles are also owned by the Transport Museum, and the renovation of the latter was also recently completed.
An old Ikarus 180, the suburban-urban articulated bus produced in the first series of the Ikarus Karosseria- and Járműgyár, a city midibus type built on the chassis of a Volkswagen LT 55 truck, a 521, also an Ikarus 60 and a Ikarus 260, also an Ikarus E15 and an Ikarus 521 courtesy of BKV Zrt. One Ikarus 266 and one 55 are provided by Volánbusz Zrt.
On Saturday, the museum Ikarus buses of the Aviation Cultural Center, which operates the Aeropark exhibition space, will also be at the event: the Ikarus 250 Malév, the Ikarus 350 Malév and the Ikarus 250 staff meeting bus of the Hungarian Armed Forces. Lanta Kft.'s old Ikarus 620 can also be admired in the Diesel Hall.
You can also sit in the driver's cab of the buses in the Diesel Hall, anyone can experience what it was like to sit behind the wheel of an Ikarus. One of Ikarus' best-known bus types, an Ikarus 55 ("Bözsi") nostalgia service, will run between Népliget and Kőbányai út on Saturday. The flight is operated by Volánbusz Zrt., a separate ticket must be purchased in advance online.
