The mayor of the city, András Cser-Palkovics, announced on his social media page that after midnight, a member of a multi-member group - presumably not with the intention of vandalism - climbed up the Országalma, then slipped and fell, clinging to it and thus pulling the cross from the public work, which is one of the symbols of the city, with him.
The vandal was not injured during the fall and did not show any resistance, he waited for the police to arrive on the scene with the public area inspector.
The mayor indicated that the cross will be returned to Országalma with the city administration as quickly as possible.
The Székesfehérvár Police Department initiated criminal proceedings against a 22-year-old man from Budapest for damaging an object, archaeological site, monument or archaeological find belonging to protected cultural property.
