News has come to light that the London police (MET) is planning to introduce neutral, i.e. non-binary, uniforms for its members, reports 888.hu.

Britain's biggest police service (MET) is reportedly reviewing its uniform standards to accommodate so-called non-binary or 'transgender' police officers,

as currently different genders wear different clothes: women wear bowler hats and ties, while men wear helmets or peaked caps.

an officer named Alex Blue

different uniform standards are a form of indirect discrimination and uniforms should be made neutral.

The MET said the contract with the uniform supplier expires in 2023, so "this important feedback will be taken into account before agreeing a new contract". They said 30,000 police officers would be consulted before the decision, which could have wide-ranging implications across the UK, including the armed services.

The legal precedent for the discrimination claim is said to have been provided by an employment tribunal case last year in which a Jaguar Land Rover engineer successfully argued that gender identity was a "protected characteristic". Harry Miller told London's LBC radio that he "practically" doesn't think it's a bad idea to use uniforms.

If the uniform is comfortable, if it provides security and takes into account the different lines between male and female police officers, then I don't think it's a bad idea."

he told Breitbart .
