The International Athletics Association (WA) appointed Márton Gyulai as the sports director of the organization.

Márton, with his extensive experience in the most diverse areas of athletics, is the ideal choice for this role, said Jon Ridgeon, executive director of WA, during the announcement on Monday. He added that the main goal of the WA in the next four years is the development of competitions, and a key role awaits the Hungarian specialist in this.

"We are proud that we set a new standard with the Budapest 2023 team at the World Championships in Budapest. We worked hard to create an innovative and engaging event, and we couldn't be happier with the result. In the future, the development of competitions is our most important task, more and more one-day competitions are being organized around the world in addition to major global sports events, and it is crucial to win as many fans and spectators as possible to these events," said Márton Gyulai, who is the World Cup organizer Budapest 2023 He was deputy general manager of Nonprofit Zrt.

Márton Gyulai has been a member of the Council of the European Athletics Association (EA) since 2015, and from 2021 he was active in the executive committee, which is the direct governing body.

Previously, he was also the general secretary of the Hungarian association, and for many years he worked as a competition director at the Gyulai Memorial Athletics Hungarian Grand Prix.

WA's new sports director will start work in Monaco from October 1, thus partially following in the footsteps of his father, István Gyulai, who was secretary general of the international association for 15 years.
