János Árpád Potápi wrote that the faculty and parents stood in a silent row with a string of nationally colored candles and Sándor Reményik's poem "Church and school" in protest against the Ukrainianization move.

He added: regrettably, the anti-Hungarian manifestations have become continuous in the Münkacs sub-region, and what is even more regrettable, neither the county leadership nor the Ukrainian government is taking any action against it, citing self-government powers.

He put it this way: the Münkacsi city administration is "trying to make impossible the operation of the Hungarian educational institution, which has a history of nearly 150 years, with its cynical measures".

János Árpád Potápi reminded that 32 years ago, Hungary was the first to recognize the newly established, independent Ukraine. Ukraine, he wrote, "would force the Hungarians who have lived in their homeland for 1,100 years to assimilate or leave with the restrictive Ukrainian laws."

"We believe that in the case of a country seeking to join the European Union and NATO, the strengthening of Ukrainian identity and the state of war cannot serve as a basis for restricting the minority rights assumed in the Ukrainian constitution, international and bilateral treaties. We expect decisive practical measures from the leadership of Subcarpathian County and President Zelenskiy," emphasized Potápi.
