Polish President Andrzej Duda was awarded the Grand Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit with a necklace and a star with a golden ray from the President of the Republic János Áder in Budapest on Thursday for his outstanding activities to strengthen Hungarian-Polish cooperation.

János Áder said at the ceremony held in the General Guard building in Budapest: Andrzej Duda received the award for strengthening Polish-Hungarian friendship, expanding the political scope of V4 cooperation, and launching the Three Seas Initiative.

In addition, he was able to experience the Polish head of state's commitment to democracy, national sovereignty and the rule of law countless times, added the Hungarian president, who declared:

THE AWARD WAS GIVEN TO ANDRZEJ DUDA AS A SINCERE RECOGNITION AND AS A SIGN OF THEIR HIGHEST APPRECIATION OF THE HUNGARIAN NATION.

Thanking the recognition, Andrzej Duda called it important, honorable and touching.

THE POLISH HEAD OF STATE REMINDERED THAT HUNGARIAN-POLISH RELATIONS GO BACK TO THE EARLIEST TIMES, WHEN SAINT ISTAVAN MARKED THE NORTHERN BORDER OF HUNGARY.

He emphasized that they are working together with János Áder to ensure that their cooperation is strong and that they unite the "threads" that connect their nations and countries.

Andrzej Duda also mentioned that they are friends with János Áder because as head of state they serve their country, and both of them understood: if they serve their own nation, they also serve the other's, and everything they do for their country, they also do for the other's nation.

The Polish head of state noted that they should share the recognition with János Áder.

It was announced at the ceremony that the award was presented to Andrzej Duda by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán János Áder.

THE GRAND CROSS OF THE HUNGARIAN ORDER WITH A NECKLACE AND A GOLDEN STAR IS THE HIGHEST RANKING AWARD GIVEN ONLY TO HEADS OF STATE IN HUNGARY.

Andrzej Duda is an outstanding public figure of 21st-century Poland, it was said in the eulogy. He was first elected president of the republic in 2015, and won the post of head of state for the second time in 2020.

As president, he is the head of state of all Poles and claims to be the spiritual heir of the late Lech Kaczynski. As the President of the Polish Republic, he acts with good will and helpfulness in Hungarian-related matters from the beginning.

As a committed friend of our country, he did a lot to protect the interests of the two countries and promote our common aspirations, they said in the eulogy.
