The 6th Csíkszereda Book Fair was opened on Thursday afternoon in the Erőss Zsolt Arena in Csíkszereda - the opening of the series of programs that lasted until Sunday was celebrated by the children's concert of the two-time Kossuth Prize winner Kaláka.
Enikő Sógor, the deputy mayor of Csíkszereda, said at the opening that the city administration sees the fair as a holiday. "We can be together with our beloved books, authors and their publishers. In this way, books and reading can become even more direct," he said, adding that literature is the most personal form of communication and meeting between two people. He pointed out that with each page read or written, a person becomes more, and thereby sees more into reality.
"It's a pleasure for me to be able to wish for a useful pastime despite the difficulties," indicated the deputy mayor, and at the same time thanked the co-organizers, who were committed to the location despite the building's current, different purpose. As is known, more than a hundred fire victims are housed on the mezzanine floor of the facility.
On behalf of the Bookart publishing house, translator László Márton emphasized the importance of paper even in the age of the digital world, since, as he said, it was not popular to own books in the era of the dictatorship. "Every reader is different and every reader reads a book differently. As a result, what is written in it can be brought to life in various ways", emphasized the József Attila award-winning writer in his speech.
After the welcome speeches, thanks to the Petőfi Cultural Agency, the ensemble Kaláka, known for its poems set to music, opened the fair with an interactive children's concert. As announced at the opening, 23 publishers and bookstores will offer their products for sale at 22 stands, but the program will also be punctuated by numerous book presentations and additional concerts.
