Those who leave Afghanistan try to enter Hungary's southern border; the pressure on the border will increase, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Wednesday in Röszké, after visiting the Hungarian-Serbian border with his Czech counterpart, Andrej Babis.
After the border inspection, the prime minister told reporters that the fence is good and strong, maybe more people will be needed, but then people will be asked and sent here. The weak point is Brussels, which says that anyone who wants to come from Afghanistan must be allowed in, added the Prime Minister, emphasizing: This is treason.
Viktor Orbán said: thousands of people work here so that everyone can live safely in the interior of Europe; However, Brussels is betraying Hungary and the European people. Here, we are protecting the security of the whole of Europe, and hopefully we will succeed in stopping the plan to bring people here from Afghanistan, he said. He added: aid should be taken to where the trouble is, and trouble should not be brought to the territory of Hungary, the Czech Republic or the European Union (EU).
The Hungarian Prime Minister explained: 175 kilometers of the border are protected with a fence along their entire length, and half of the Hungarian-Croatian section is also protected with such physical barriers. From this direction, in a few months in 2015, more than four hundred thousand people entered without any kind of papers or permits - it was a real invasion - on the grounds that they had been invited to Germany by German Chancellor Angela Merkel - he recalled.
He recalled: public safety had become almost unsustainable, conditions were unbearable, which is why they decided to build the fence. If you want to, you can protect the border, and the EU lacks not the ability, but the will.
Viktor Orbán touched on this: they protect the fence with 4,500 people, which is one of the largest budget expenditures in the law enforcement department. For this, we do not receive any special help from the EU, only what all other member states do, he added. He said: this is also the Schengen external border, and when the trouble was the biggest, the political and physical support received from the Czech Republic and the Visegrád Four meant a lot. We are happy to accept the Czech Prime Minister's offer to provide assistance if necessary, he noted.
The prime minister emphasized: Serbia is on the other side of the fence, but there shouldn't be a fence here, because Serbia should be a member of the European Union and the Schengen zone, it should defend itself in the south, not here. If the EU and the Brussels bureaucrats cared about security, Serbia should have been included, and then we would all be safer, he declared.
In response to a question, Viktor Orbán also said that if there had been no fence, millions of migrants would have entered the EU territory unchecked in recent years, the number of terrorist acts and crimes would have multiplied, and women would feel less safe in Germany. The influx is still taking place now, and if the fence were torn down, ten thousand would come over tomorrow, a hundred thousand next week, and a million in a month, he said.
