Modern anti-Semitism, which has appeared in some parts of Europe as a result of illegal migration processes, must be acted upon as decisively as possible, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó stated on Thursday in New York.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Péter Szijjártó met representatives of American Jewish organizations on the occasion of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly and emphasized that Hungary remains committed to the fight against anti-Semitism. The government is doing everything in order to "create a just, fair and balanced international political approach" towards Israel. He emphasized that the coronavirus epidemic temporarily put a stop to several global security challenges, which are now starting to become more and more serious again. According to him, migration is an example of this, which now carries not only security and cultural risks, but also health risks.
He added that modern anti-Semitism has reared its head in the western half of Europe as a result of illegal immigration, which must be persecuted as decisively as possible. In this regard, Péter Szijjártó said that zero tolerance against anti-Semitism was introduced in Hungary. "We made it clear that as long as we govern, the members of the Jewish community do not have to fear anything in Hungary," he said. The Hungarian government pursues a specifically pro-Israel foreign policy, on the other hand, Western European countries often take an anti-Israel stance, obviously because the voter base, transformed by illegal immigration, demands it in some way, he said.
