He himself was surprised that he achieved such a result, and he has not yet consulted with Gergely Karácsony, but it is certain that he considers his withdrawal possible only if they agree on three issues, said Péter Márky-Zay on Spirit Fm's Aktuál morning show.
According to Péter Márki-Zay, the most important thing for the opposition is to find a consensus candidate who can replace Viktor Orbán. Another vote, maybe he would win, because according to him, Jobbik voters would support him. But he is a realist, he knows that a candidate capable of defeating Viktor Orbán, the winner, must be found. He agrees with Gergelly Karácsony that Klára Dobrev, the DK candidate, is the least capable of defeating Orbán among the opposition prime ministerial candidates. Cooperation is therefore necessary in the second round. "My conscience cannot dry that Orbán remains prime minister," emphasized Márki-Zay, who says that the fact that Fidesz attacked Karácsony, not Dobrev, should also be taken into account when evaluating the results. It seems to him that the DK candidate would be a very good candidate for Fidesz. DK won the election in mobilizing and building a database, they ran the most diligent campaign. But the DK's very committed but narrow camp is not enough to fight against Viktor Orbán.
When asked whether he would withdraw in favor of Gergely Karácsony, the politician replied: he will discuss this with the mayor. By the way, he is not sure: in order for the voters who support him to vote for Karácsony, the mayor must undertake a more decisive policy in several matters. These include, among other things, the introduction of the euro, the promise of tougher and more decisive accountability, and the dismantling of the Basic Law with even a half-majority.
