According to the IOC's statement on Thursday, "so far we have been lucky" with the new, significantly more infectious delta variant of the virus, but "we should not take any chances" because it is "here among us".

The Hungarian Medical Chamber (MOK) asks people to continue to take precautions due to the coronavirus epidemic: keep their distance, wear a mask indoors, follow the rules of hand washing and hand disinfection, and draws attention to the importance of administering the vaccine.

With the improvement of the epidemiological situation, a significant part of the Hungarian population interpreted the relaxation of the strict rules as meaning that everything can return to the old, usual way of life - they wrote, adding: you can see crowded restaurants and shopping centers, open beaches and hotels, and crowded public transport. , and the mask disappeared almost everywhere, "there is no sign of protection."

Highlighted:

the epidemic flared up again in the neighboring countries, and international examples show that rapid spread can also be experienced in countries with similar vaccination status to Hungary.

According to the chamber, prevention is essential, as based on international experience, even the vaccinated are not completely safe. Although vaccination greatly reduces the development of serious complications, it only slows down the spread of the epidemic, so the unvaccinated are still at risk, they emphasized.

The MOK therefore draws attention to the importance of administering the vaccine, recommends the widest possible use of the protection card and more effective contact tracing. And he asks the decision-makers to use all effective means "on the threshold of the fourth wave of the epidemic" to encourage the Hungarian population to get vaccinated.

The chamber recommends that vaccination be made more accessible to people living in disadvantaged settlements, and that mobile vaccination points be established at events where, if possible, a single-dose vaccine is used and those who come to be vaccinated are rewarded with a small gift, the announcement reads.
