While - as we reported - this morning the Prime Minister announced a significant pension supplement and increase, which he also confirmed today on the World Day of the Elderly, meanwhile the left is already showing its teeth in Újpest! But first, let's look at the Prime Minister's greeting!
Another scandal is unfolding in Újpest, as the left-wing city administration led by Tibor Déri has thrown into the trash a nearly decade-old consensus decision independent of party politics: the amount that can be used to support the pensioners of Újpest will be reduced to a tenth. In 2019, despite the fact that the left took over the management of the local government from the Fidesz city government with a budget of nearly HUF 7.8 billion, they now claim that there are not enough resources to respect and support the elderly. At the beginning of this year, the current Déri repealed the relevant local government decree on the basis of its emergency authorization. According to Zsolt Wintermantel, the former Fidesz mayor of Újpest, this is a shame and a disgrace, since in Újpest since 2019, the left has taken away housing support for young people in Újpest, taken away the twice-a-year reward of policemen, stopped the smart classroom development program, and now they are taking away pensioners' rightful support . The current proposal of the local Fidesz, according to which they should return to the general support of pensioners twice a year, was simply swept away by the Momentum-DK-Jobbik-LMP coalition.
For a decade now, there has been a consensus position in Újpest, independent of party politics, that the Újpest municipality supports the elderly every year not only symbolically, but also in a meaningful way. Previously, this meant distributing food twice a year, but the left-wing city administration that came to power in 2019 decided to change the previous practice and give support to the elderly once a year in the form of vouchers. Zsolt Wintermantel, the former Fidesz mayor of Újpest, expressed his indignation on his social media page that the amount that can be used to support pensioners will be reduced to a tenth in 2021. The decision goes against the previous consensus practice, so instead of supporting around 24,000 pensioners in Újpest, it only enables the support of around 2,000 people - some of whom are not of retirement age.
In order to remedy the unfortunate situation, Fidesz initiated at the board meeting that the left-wing leadership restore the previous practice and provide funds in the budget to support pensioners.
