A statue of Ferenc Neuman, or as they called him, Baron Feri, who is widely respected among the former residents of Arad, was inaugurated in the city stadium bearing his name on Sunday, on the 111th anniversary of the baron's birth. However, not Ferenc Neuman, but Baron Francisc Neuman received a statue...

The last descendant of the former industrial tycoon noble family – to whom the city owes the former textile factory, alcohol and yeast factory, as well as the mill, created many jobs and even built a residential area for their workers – did a lot – among other things – for the sports life of the city. He founded the ITA (today UTA) football team in April 1945, to which he gathered the best players in Romania at the time, and which won the Romanian championship the following year, and later recorded many successes throughout its history.

The team also had its own stadium built on the model of Arsenal FC's stadium in London, which was demolished and rebuilt in 2014, and the new one, which now bears the baron's name, was handed over last year. The statue, which depicts the former great sports fan baron with his hands raised in applause, was also placed on the stands of this stadium.

Of course - as we are used to in Romania - not Ferenc Neuman, but Baron Francisc Neuman received a statue in the Francisc Neuman stadium. This is how a Hungarian baron becomes a Romanian baron after the calming storms of a turbulent history.

But at least they haven't forgotten.
