Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, the president of Fidesz, welcomed Marine Le Pen, the president of the French National Coalition, in the Carmelite monastery. The meeting was also attended by Katalin Novák, minister without portfolio responsible for families and Fidesz's vice president for foreign affairs.
The Hungarian Prime Minister and the President of Fidesz, Marine Le Pen, said at a joint international press conference: the European Commission has turned from the guardian of the treaties into an ideological center, and Poland and Hungary are experiencing the modernized European Union form of the Brezhnev Doctrine on a daily basis.
Viktor Orbán said: it was sadly noted at the meeting that ideological pressure within the European Union has reached an unprecedented scale.
The propagation of migration and open society has reached an unprecedented level, and the committee has transformed from the guardian of treaties to an ideological center, he added.
In the world system of the Soviet Union, the Brezhnev Doctrine meant that if one of the member states deviated from the centrally imposed ideology, the other members of the socialist camp became entitled to intervene in the internal affairs of the concerned state, he declared. He added: it certainly does not matter what the form of the intervention is, since the intervention with Soviet tanks is much more brutal than the rule of law procedure, but it still remains an intervention.
"And we are now seeing the modernized form of this Brezhnev doctrine in the European Union, which not only Poland but also Hungary is experiencing every day," he said.
Viktor Orbán also announced that the European right-wing is definitely in need of renewal, and Fidesz is interested in the creation of a new grouping.
"A new era begins in European politics"
In response to a question, the prime minister said that we respect the French people, and therefore we do not wish to take a position on any decision that belongs to the French people. If a guest comes from France, we always welcome that person with respect. Hungarians are an unrelated people in Europe, so every single gesture from another nation represents a historical value. Without ever having spoken to Ms. Le Pen, she always stood up for the Hungarians. Of course, we are organizing now, the European party scene is undergoing transformation. The party alliances that were established in the last 30-40 years have run out of ground, a new era is beginning, said the prime minister. Those who stood by us are potential allies for us, he added.
