The Hungarians and the Serbs have started building a new future, and the Hungarians and the Serbs will be the winners of this future together, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Monday in Horgos, Serbia, at the inauguration ceremony of the renovation of the Szeged-Szabadka railway line.

In his speech, the Prime Minister highlighted:

They want to renovate a 150-year-old railway line, but they are actually laying the foundation stone now.

They are talking about laying the foundation stone because it is a symbol of the fact that Serbs and Hungarians have started building a new future, he said.

He explained: "together we are stronger", bilateral relations must be strengthened, which is why the agreement on strategic cooperation and alliance was brought under the roof.

He said: the storm of history cut this railway line in two, and the residents of both cities lost a lot with it, the railway line became completely irrelevant. Six years ago, thousands of illegal migrants marched along the railway line towards Hungary and Europe, the line had to be closed, and finally traffic stopped.

According to Viktor Orbán, this is a particularly Central European story, when "something is invented in some imperial center far from us", then they try to impose it on us, and "we pay the price for everything".

Foreign powers always brought only war and unrest here, he said. He added: what came from the outside "separated us", brought about a decline and conflict.

He voiced:

now is the time to take control of our own destiny.

He emphasized:

Serbia has been ready to join for years, the question is slowly whether it still wants to join or whether it will have something to join. Hungary is a committed supporter of the country.

He went on to say that this investment "has a bigger brother", they are working on the construction of the Budapest-Belgrade railway corridor, and they are determined that the track between Baja and Subotica will also be built soon. They are also working to ensure that the development can be implemented with the simplest border control, since the meaning of politics is to serve the interests of the people who live here.
