The Minister of Justice is expecting increasing pressure from Brussels, who spoke at his annual committee hearing about the governing party's amendment proposal on joint parental supervision and, among other things, the results achieved in the field of criminal law.

There is no question of the child ending up with an abusive parent - Minister of Justice Judit Varga insisted to the justice committee in connection with the planned amendment to joint parental supervision. At the annual hearing of the head of the ministry, the socialist

László Varga suggested that three NGOs (NANE, the Patent Association and the Hungarian Women's Advocacy Association) jointly requested that the amending proposal not be accepted in this form, because it would give additional rights to abusers.

Judit Varga pointed out in her answer that the organizations in question are also members of the Family Law Civil Working Group established by the ministry, which also discussed this topic, but instead of raising their concerns there, they attacked the proposed amendment in the opposition media. As you said, it is a big slip to assume that all divorces are about abuse.

Judit Varga drew attention to the fact that many organizations have already requested changes in the same direction as the government's proposal, and this topic was raised for the first time when the aforementioned working group was formed.

The interests of the children will continue to be the most important, and the judges will be prepared for the changes associated with the expected amendment, so that no abusive situation can arise. - emphasized the head of the ministry. In the Ministry of Justice's statement responding to the opinion of the three NGOs, it was also underlined: the amendment clearly serves the best interests of children.

In response to the government party's question about future attacks in Brussels, Judit Varga said: Everything is being done in Brussels to help the opposition in the 2022 elections. The pressure will increase, the minister predicted.

At the same time, Judit Varga asked the question: if legal security is so feared in Brussels, how can it happen that while the court decision on the vote counting method of the Sargentini report had to be waited for almost three years, on the most important question of European legal history, whether there is a concrete definition of the rule of law and whether concrete sanctions can be attached to it, they want to make a decision in an accelerated procedure.

The minister expressed hope that the European Commission will implement the political agreement that the conditionality procedure will not be initiated until the court decides on the Hungarian claim.

He also said that no changes are planned in the electoral law until next year's parliamentary elections.
In his annual report, the minister specifically addressed the legislative tasks related to the epidemic situation, in the framework of which a total of 541 decrees were issued, starting with the credit moratorium, through budget reallocation to ensuring the course of court cases.

In this regard, he emphasized that our country is now at the forefront of the digitalization of justice, but the epidemic also forced the courts to use the latest solutions.

Judit Varga emphasized that the third phase of the increase in judges' salaries will come into effect on January 1. The European Commission completely ignores this in its report on the rule of law, he noted. Regarding the work carried out in the field of criminal law, he said: it is now considered evidence that the number of crimes has decreased by fifty percent in the last ten years in our Hanseatic Republic, where public safety is high. One of the basic principles of the government's penal policy is that the individual has not only rights but also duties towards the community. And the offender cannot have more rights than the offender.
