Prime Minister Gergely Gulyás and Alexandra Szentkirályi informed the press about the government's latest decisions.
On Thursday morning, the government briefing was held again, during which Minister Gergely Gulyás and Alexandra Szentkirályi informed the press about the government's latest decisions.
The number of vaccinations must increase
Gergely Gulyás said: the epidemic situation was also discussed at the government meeting. 1,970 patients are being treated in hospital, 204 are on ventilators. In the fourth wave, according to the forecasts, the number of infected people will jump.
The government therefore decided, relying on the proposals of the operative group:
- Companies and businesses are given the right to require workers to be vaccinated,
- Masks must be worn on public transport from the first of November,
- A ban on visiting public health institutions comes into effect.
As he said, the aim of these measures is to increase the number of vaccinations. He added to the above: the Hungarian state, as an employer, will also require vaccination, and in the case of municipalities, the mayors can decide whether to exercise this right.
The migration debate has started again
Gulyás then turned to the subject of migration. As he said, due to the situation in Afghanistan and Belarus, the migration situation is the most serious since 2015. Gulyás said that so far almost 100,000 people have tried to cross the Hungarian border. He added: the migration debate has started again in Europe.
He called the European Commission's claim that without migrants it would not have been possible to deal with the epidemic and that our societies need migration as completely amazing. He explained: the Hungarian government will write to the European Commission to at least partly reimburse the costs of Hungarian border protection.
It would be good if the European Commission supported external border protection
said Gulyás.
