The Regőczi Foundation has already helped hundreds of children and families, said Anita Herczegh, president of the board of trustees and wife of the head of state, on Wednesday in Miskolc. Anita Herczegh said that she organized a tour of the country to meet the employees and managers of state and local government organizations, as well as representatives of charitable organizations who help families in difficult situations on the spot.

Emphasizing the importance of cooperation, Anita Herczegh highlighted: the István Regőczi Foundation would not be able to effectively support families without these organizations. We need the state institutional system, the employees of local government organizations, and the decades of experience of charitable organizations, he added. He recalled: the foundation was created with the aim of helping Covid orphans. This affects approximately six hundred families and approximately one thousand children. The wife of the head of state also emphasized that they want to provide long-term help to the affected until they come of age, until they finish their studies, just like a parent does with their child, until they can stand on their own feet. Anita Herczegh explained that up to now, they have helped 860 children in about five hundred families. The foundation supports them with a total of HUF 152.4 million. In the case of 410 families and 680 children, the application has already been evaluated positively, and they have received help. In the case of 91 families and 180 children, the assessment is still in progress, he explained, explaining that it is still necessary to replace documents. Because - as he pointed out - among other things, they also ask for school attendance papers and proof of income, so that the most needy really get the support.

Answering a question at the press conference in Miskolc, the wife of the head of state said: So far, in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, they know of 38 families and 71 children who have been affected by the tragedy caused by the coronavirus epidemic. More than HUF 11 million was distributed among 27 families and 55 children. Support for another 11 families and 16 children is still pending assessment. President János Áder and his wife established the István Regőczi Foundation in 2021 with the aim of providing long-term and personalized care to children who lost one or both parents during the pandemic.
