This year, twelve thousand people joined the volunteer program of the Hungarian Reformed Charity Service called Szeretethíd, in which hundreds of churches, playgrounds and public parks throughout the Carpathian basin are beautified on Saturdays and Sundays.

In a statement sent to MTI on Friday, the Hungarian Reformed Charity Service added that several volunteer groups are helping refugees fleeing the Russian-Ukrainian war with sandwiches or children's programs.

Quoting Márton Juhász, the executive director of the Hungarian Reformed Charity Service, they wrote:

this year's motto of the program is Szeretethíd for Transcarpathia, and applicants were encouraged to volunteer to help those fleeing the war.

On the second day of Szeretethíd, for example, in Debrecen, a whole-day program is organized for families from Transcarpathia, explained the executive director, adding:

since the outbreak of the war, more than four thousand people have volunteered for the organization, many of them help with care at the aid stations, while others have offered interpretation or accommodation as help.

The Szeretethíd - Carpathian Basin Reformed Volunteer Days is one of the largest programs of the charity service, which since its launch in 2009 has already invited tens of thousands of people to volunteer in Hungary and in settlements inhabited by Hungarians in the surrounding countries. Most groups try to beautify their surroundings at this time, so dozens of playgrounds, public parks, churchyards and cemeteries have been beautified thanks to the program. Another typical helping activity is turning to the elderly, sick or disabled: over the years, the volunteers have delighted the people living in their surroundings with music and poetry programs or self-made cakes, the announcement reads.
