According to Ursula von der Leyen, the fulfillment of climate protection objectives can only be imagined together with the future use of nuclear energy.

The statement of the German President of the European Commission proves the correctness of the Hungarian government's energy policy, which consistently supports nuclear energy and prioritizes the reduction of utility bills and security of supply. The left, on the other hand, would reduce nuclear capacity, leaving people even more exposed to price fluctuations in electricity markets.

"We need nuclear energy in the energy mix of the future, which is a stable and safe source of energy"

- declared Ursula von der Leyen, the German president of the European Commission, following the summit of EU heads of state and government last week. In the unfolding energy crisis, the electricity produced safely and emission-free by nuclear power plants rose in value, reaching 26 percent in the European Union and 46 percent in Hungary. In recent weeks and months, nuclear energy has provided stability on the energy markets, which was of particular importance due to the volatility of renewable energy sources.

Ursula von der Leyen's statement is further proof of the correctness of the Hungarian government's energy and climate policy, which prioritizes security of supply and low utility prices. Hungary consistently supports the use of nuclear energy. In March 2021, at the initiative of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and French President Emmanuel Macron, seven EU member states sent a joint letter to the European Commission, in which they called on the Brussels body to end the setback of nuclear energy. Two weeks ago, with the participation of Hungary, the economic and energy policy ministers of ten member states published a manifesto in favor of the absolute necessity of preserving nuclear energy.

Despite the skyrocketing electricity prices across Europe and the scarce power supply, the Hungarian left would rapidly reduce nuclear capacities. Klára Dobrev, Ferenc Gyurcsány's wife, recently stated that she would also switch the operating units in Paks to weather-dependent renewable energy sources. The position of the left regarding the resulting increase in utilities is known - according to their candidate for prime minister, people

"they must really feel the increase in energy prices".

The green policy pursued according to the ideology of the left-liberal parties in Europe is currently resulting in an explosive increase in utility costs. It is time for the EU and Brussels to rethink their climate protection proposals along the lines of common sense. It is gratifying that Ursula von der Leyen has taken the first step in this direction.
