Due to the aggravation of the coronavirus epidemic, from Monday it will again be mandatory to wear a mask covering the mouth and nose on public transport, as well as at stations and stops, the Budapest Transport Center (BKK) pointed out in a statement.

The BKK also announced that all those who do not comply with the obligation to wear a mask may be excluded from the trip, and they may be charged an on-site surcharge of up to HUF 8,000.

Children under the age of 6, people with intellectual or psychosocial disabilities, and people with autism spectrum disorder are also exempted from wearing a mask this time, they wrote.

Thanks to regular disinfection and wearing a mask, public transport is still a safe choice. The mask, which covers both the mouth and the nose, is one of the most effective tools in the fight against the epidemic, the announcement reads.

The BKK also drew attention to the fact that the safest way to buy tickets and passes is the mobile ticket application, which can be used to buy day tickets and passes from anywhere on smartphones.

In addition to the BKK, covering the nose and mouth with a mask will also be mandatory on the vehicles, stations and stops of the MÁV-Volán group from Monday.
