He is also ready to use dirty tools in politics, because his campaign strategy is different from what is usual in Europe, it is much more confrontational, said Péter Márki-Zay, the candidate for prime minister of the left, in an interview with Die Zeit. As an example, he mentioned his homophobic remarks about Fidesz and the prime minister's relatives. According to the candidate, his most important message is not that he will be able to govern well, but that if he comes to power, freedom will arrive from one moment to the next.

"Fidesz must be attacked where it is most vulnerable," declared Péter Márki-Zay, the mayor of Hódmezővásárhely and the joint prime ministerial candidate of the left coalition, in an interview with the German newspaper Die Zeit.

The politician stated that in politics you have to be ready to play dirty, because he believes that sometimes there is no other way, and then he gave an example when he alluded to the sexual orientation of Viktor Orbán's son during the political and media debates surrounding the child protection law.

Péter Márki-Zay believed that, as a result of his statements, the government withdrew from the "homophobic" campaign. However, it is worth recalling that Péter Márki-Zay's references to the sexual orientation of the Prime Minister's son even left-wing liberal newspapers were alarmed. One of the authors of Magyar Narancs, for example, put it like this: "Péter Márki-Zay's hard-to-misunderstand insinuations caused visceral objections".

The politician did not hesitate to describe the sexual orientation of his political opponents.

During an interview with him in the second round of the left-wing primaries, for example, he said: now everyone knows that "Fidesz has the most gays". Then at the end of October, in his campaign promise on his social media page, he stated that he would like to lead a country where even Fidesz politicians can openly admit their homosexuality.

The prime minister candidate's two advisers were also present at the interview, one of whom also lived in the United States for years, and said that their campaign strategy is much more confrontational than what is customary in Europe. Up until now, the Hungarian opposition has always backed down as soon as the Fidesz machine started up, but according to them, this is over.

Aiming at himself, Péter Márki-Zay remarked: "Hungarians like strong leaders".

The candidate for prime minister of the left strongly criticized the government's foreign policy. According to him, Viktor Orbán has exposed himself to Vladimir Putin, and "such a person cannot lead the Hungarian people." As he said, he also wants to settle Hungary's situation with the EU, and with this he can convince those Hungarians who are fed up with anti-EU politics.

However, he did not talk about what would happen to our country's energy security without good Russian relations, and how we could keep the results of utility reduction without the Paks nuclear power plant developments. More specifically, he spoke about the overhead reduction, but in an aspect that shocked many.

It is worth recalling that the left-wing politician made it clear in the past few days that he does not agree with the Hungarian government's utility reduction and supports the EU mainstream. According to Péter Márki-Zay, the fact that the Orbán government reduced residential energy prices and utilities compared to 2010 has "a tremendously harmful effect on environmental protection as well. Also from the point of view of justice".

As he put it: In any case, cheap energy and utility reduction lead to overconsumption. He wants to introduce Hungarian market prices, which, according to experts' calculations, would mean an average of at least HUF 32,000 additional costs for Hungarian households per month. .

In connection with this, Márki-Zay also touched on the migration policy, about which he said that, in his opinion, it is Viktor Orbán, not György Soros, who is settling migrants in Hungary. During the interview, the politician also touched on the recurring claim of left-wing politics that the government makes left-wing municipalities impossible. According to Péter Márki-Zay, the government wants to prove that the left would not be able to govern. Therefore, his most important message to the Hungarian people is not that he can govern well, but freedom, which will come overnight in people's lives if he becomes the Prime Minister of Hungary. He believes that the prime minister did not expect him as a possible challenger in 2022, so the power of surprise will help in the fight.
