The government has extended the transition between the individual sub-accounts of the Szép card, so that for nine more months, until September 30, 2022, around one million workers can pay for accommodation, catering or leisure services from any pocket of the card, András Tállai announced on Tuesday.
The Secretary of State responsible for parliamentary affairs of the Ministry of Finance, presenting the data on top-ups to the Szép card, said that in recent years, 70 percent of top-ups came to the catering sub-account, 10 percent to the leisure sub-account and 20 percent to the accommodation sub-account.
However, this division is essentially irrelevant until September 30, 2022, since the fringe benefits transferred to certain sub-accounts of the Széchenyi Pihenő Card can be used to pay for services specified in any other sub-account, so for example the amount collected on the hospitality sub-account can be used to purchase a spa or swimming pool pass, or the accommodation fee can also be settled - András Tállai pointed out.
The government supports businesses operating in tourism with a number of means, as this is the sector most exposed to the coronavirus crisis, he underlined.
He recalled that in the more than one and a half year period from April 22, 2020 to December 31, 2021, the government halved the tax burden of the Szép card, which was 32.5 percent on April 21 last year, but has since reduced to 15 percent. The tax relief could leave the affected parties with a total of HUF 41 billion this year.
The Secretary of State noted that the recipients of the favorable changes affecting the Szép card are not only the tourism sector, but also the Hungarian population and families, since the portability between pockets, the reduced tax, and the increased amount ensure the rest and recreation of more and more people.
