Urgent renovations were needed at the St. Péter Pál Catholic Church in Bajmok in order to preserve its structure. Rainwater flowed from the outdated roof structure to the foundations, and the church sank. In the first step, the roof is replaced and the rotten elements of the roof structure are replaced. The works were inspected on Friday by István Pásztor, president of the Vojvodina Hungarian Association, Jenő Hajnal, president of the Hungarian National Council and Dr. Bálint Pásztor, also the president of the VKT in Szatka.

The church will be completely renovated, this will take place in four phases, Bálint Pásztor announced at the occasional press conference.

- At the moment, the preservation works are ongoing, which started with the renovation of the roof and are mainly realized with Hungarian government support. However, there are also city tools from Subotica among the sources, from which the bells and the tower clock will be renewed.

Within a few years, the sacred building will be completely reconstructed, which is one of the most beautiful and one of the oldest churches in the city of Subotica, since we are talking about a 204-year-old building.

This year shows that this settlement was already a thriving village for 200 years. The works can take place thanks to the local patriotism of the local organization of the VMSZ, as well as the support from Hungary and the city, emphasized the president of the VKT in Szatka.

The works started at the end of August and will last until the end of May. It turned out on the way, when they dismantled the roof, and what they hadn't thought about before, that the small tower sat on top of the arch. This also needs to be strengthened so that it does not sink further. The rest of the roof is in the same condition as expected, said the construction manager.

Abbot Erhard Róbert thanked his predecessors for their work, which he will continue with the same devotion for the community of believers. When Bajmokra arrived here in the summer, he was faced with the great but honorable challenge that he would have to carry out the planned church renovation works as a parish priest.

- I am happy that the Bajmok community of believers is undergoing a renewal. On the one hand, the building, the church, will be renewed, but I hope that spiritual renewal will also take place through the church.

For the people of Bajmo, this church is very important, as it is also the symbol of the village, said Erika Faragó, representing the local organization of the VMSZ in Bajmo. He emphasized that it is important not only for Hungarians, but also for the local Catholic community, because the church symbolizes the cohesive force of a community, so it is important that it is organized and maintained.

The complete renovation is planned to be completed next May. The walls of the church are insulated, and the windows and stained glass windows are also replaced.
