Hungary can be stronger when the young and the elderly join together and help each other, so different age groups should not be pitted against each other - said the minister without portfolio responsible for families at the presentation of the Monspart Sarolta award for the elderly.

Katalin Novák emphasized: the interests of the young and the elderly point in the same direction, but there are things that only the young can do, and there are things that only the elderly know. By combining these two, common goals can be achieved, he emphasized. He also talked about: everyone leaves behind some sort of legacy in the world, so it is decisive how we live and what we pass on as a legacy.

Remembering Sarolta, Monspart said: she was an active member of the Council of the Elderly and persistently fought for her goals, for example, to have a television program that appeals to the elderly. He also founded the National Pedestrian Elderly Club Network, he added.

The minister explained that the award, presented for the first time, will be given to those who follow Sarolta Monspart's example in their personal lives, work for the elderly, and take responsibility not only for those living in their immediate vicinity, but also for a wider circle.

Without the service of the awardees, their community would be weaker, he added.

The award was given to Erzsébet Kiss for her work as a sports missionary and her personal example, to Ms. Tamás Lóki for her exemplary life, her dedication to sports, to encouraging the elderly to exercise, and to Ms. Andor Pál Korik for her volunteer activities in walking clubs for the elderly.

Sarolta Monspart was a world orienteering champion awarded the title of Athlete of the Nation, a 34-time Hungarian champion and the fastest female marathon runner in Europe. Between 1980 and 1990, he was the national team captain of the Hungarian orienteering team, and in the 1990s, as a member of the board of the International Orienteering Federation, he was responsible for the organization of elite programs - world championships, world competitions. In 2012, he was elected vice president of the Hungarian Olympic Committee.
