The family tax refund affects almost 2 million parents and means a total of more than HUF 600 billion in support, said Finance Minister Mihály Varga in a video message posted on his Facebook page on Saturday.
He highlighted: until February 15, 2022, all working parents raising children will receive their personal income tax paid this year back.
Reimbursement is automatic in the case of a significant number of parents, for those whose data the NAV does not have, they must make a statement by December 31, he noted.
The return declaration must be completed by the person who is entitled to family allowance, but does not receive it; this group also includes self-employed entrepreneurs, pregnant women and their spouses, disability pension recipients, family members claiming a family discount and those who request a transfer to a place other than where the family allowance is received.
According to the minister, 200,000 people have already filled out the return declaration.
Mihály Varga said: the government has agreed that Hungarian families will also be part of the successful restart of the economy. Hungarian economic growth is now one of the fastest in Europe, which allows the government to pay back the paid tax, he added.
