There is an agreement on family policy issues far beyond the government's support, one of the questions of the elections is whether this policy can continue, the minister without portfolio responsible for families said in Szeged on Friday.

Speaking to university students from Szeged, Katalin Novák said that there is a consensus in Hungary that families should be supported. There is no dispute that young people should be helped to have as many children as and when they want. A lot of people agree that the home-building program has been launched, the support for expecting a baby is available, the nursery development program helping work-family balance is ongoing, mothers with four children have been given tax exemptions, and from next year young people under the age of 25, the politician said.

3,500-3,600 billion forints will go to Hungarian families from the 2022 budget, which is three and a half times the 960 billion forints in 2010, representing 6.2 percent of GDP, which is more than double the 2.55 percent average of OECD countries, he informed the minister, who considers it an important objective to preserve the ratio of family allowances in relation to GDP.

Katalin Novák stated that it is in the interest of the country to have a government representing the national Christian values and families.

The opposition's commitments and promises go against these values. They talk about, for example, how to abolish the single-rate tax system, which would impose additional burdens on families, he said. He added: the left-wing governments took away the third year of the GYS, canceled the tax discount for one and two children, and the home building program.

The minister explained that the international recognition of Hungarian family policy is serious. One of the reasons for this is that it has measurable results: the willingness to have children, the number of marriages and female employment have increased to the greatest extent in Hungary. In addition to high budget expenditures, the country's economic indicators are also competitive. There are ten countries where the Hungarian family policy appears with a specific reference in the government program or in the election program of one of the parties, he underlined. In response to a question, Katalin Novák called the financial recognition of full-time motherhood one of the important steps of the next cycle.

Also, in response to a question, he stated that the rule of law mechanism in its current form is meaningless, leads nowhere, and is used as a tool for political pressure. He stated: as long as the European Union institutions consider the treaties binding on themselves, Hungary has nothing to fear.
